Oh, wow, I Never Expected The Loyal Three To Come Back To Life. Never, ever. Nope.
We finally learned the truth about the Loyal Three and the Ogre, and as we suspected, the villagers have it exactly backwards.
In the legend, the evil ogre that lived in the mountain made four masks. Three powerful Pokemon rose up to battle the ogre, and managed to get three of the four masks from it, leaving the ogre with the last mask, the Teal Mask, to hide away forever in its mountaintop lair.
The real story, as told to the protagonist and Carmine by Carmine’s grandfather (while our rival, Carmine’s ogre-loving younger brother Kieran, secretly listens in), is very different.
Long ago, a man and his ogre came from far away to Kitakami to settle. The villagers were frightened of the ogre and drove them onto the mountain. Carmine and Kieran’s distant ancestor was not frightened, but sympathetic, and made four masks of astounding beauty for them to wear in town.
Wearing these, the man and the ogre (whom we now know as the Pokemon Ogerpon) were able to go to the village and mingle with the villagers and enjoy the annual Festival of the Masks.
All went well until one day, three terrible Pokemon showed up to steal those masks. While Ogerpon was away, the “loyal three” showed up to the mountain cave, killed the man, and stole three of the masks. Ogrepon returned, saw the destruction, and went on a rampage, killing the three Pokemon who had killed his friend. The villagers took this the wrong way and drove him off, and there he has been sitting ever since, in his mountain lair.
For some reason, the Loyal Three have come suddenly back to life and are looking for revenge on poor Ogerpon. The protagonist, Carmine and Kieran arrive in time to scare the three away. Kieran goes to hand the ogre his repaired Teal Mask back, but Ogerpon rejects him and asks the protagonist to return the mask instead. Which we do, and now Ogerpon is following us around as a companion.
Kieran, the kid who always believed that Ogerpon was good and who was mislead by his grandfather, his sister, and the protagonist, and is now being rejected by Ogerpon, is a little upset.
So at the end of the night, we’re on the hunt for the Loyal Three. We’ve battled one of them once — the ape one — and it wasn’t a big deal.
My team currently is: Mienshao, fighting; Yanmega, bug and flying; Vikavolt, bug and electric; Shiftry, grass and dark; Milotic, water; and Magcargo, fire, all caught in the expansion. Of all these, I’ve only used one of them in another Pokemon go, that being Vikavolt, who is on my electric team in Pokemon Go. They’re high enough level to solo three and four star raids without any issues.
I have the Kitakami Pokedex up to around 120 mons; I need thirty more to finish that quest the lady with the camera gave. I don’t know what the quest gives, but I think I could get the majority of the ones I need by just evolving the ones I already caught. Plus, I know we will have an opportunity to capture Ogerpon. I’m hoping we will also have a chance to catch one or more of the loyal three, though I suspect I’ll have to choose one of them.
But we’ll see. I don’t think there is much of the main plot to go; I should have it finished tonight.
