HeroQuest: Prince Magnus’ Gold

Our band of adventurers were, once again, called upon to dive into a dungeon and retrieve what they find there. Prince Magnus order us to slay the orc chieftain Ulag in a previous adventure, but now it seems he has another task: To infiltrate the lair of the dread warrior Gulthor and retrieve three stolen treasure chests. There will be 60 gold in it for each of us — 240 in all. And maybe much more if, say, one of the treasure chests were to get lost?

I used the free app to set the stage for the adventure, though by agreement we decided not to use the app to play “Zargon” — instead, I did that.

This dungeon was the first to really lean into traps and secret doors. There was one trap in particular that seemed to trap everyone. At one time, three of them were stuck in the same trap.

Quest 4, confronting the boss

When the party found out that the wandering monsters for this dungeon were the mighty Abominations, they became a lot less eager to risk one by searching for treasure.

The barbarian’s crossbow once again proved to be a little overpowered, allowing all three melee characters chance to hit a mob. The elf put the dread lord to sleep, which made taking him down a little easier. The goblins were suicidal, as they tend to be, and the orcs felt free to unleash their hatred of elves on our elf.

Even though the party was very low on health after playing with the pit traps for awhile, potions and heals from the elf and the wizard kept everyone upright long enough to retrieve those treasure chests from the dungeon.

Next time: Going to let the app DM.
