Ever look something up on the internet and just want the instructions on how to do the thing, and nothing extra?
I’m here to do that right now.
The new Beyond Shadowgate has four different endings, and a choice you make midway through the game determines which of endings B or D you get. A and C will always be available.
That choice is whether or not to properly exorcise the spirit in Themeire Manor. If you want to see Ending D must not set the spirit to rest. You can bury the body in the graveyard, but you mustn’t put salt on it. You’ll know you’re on the path to Ending D, and have closed off Ending B (the best ending), when you go to retrieve your belongings from the attic and find the Imp (“Cookie Monster”) dead. If it is alive, you won’t get the ending.
Ending A
At the final battle, replace the Warlock Staff with the Pole. The lizard mage will be destroyed by the portal power, closing Talimar off from the world for another age. You will die in the backfire but will be remembered as a hero.
Ending B
You will have the Sun Stone in your inventory. Combine it with the Staff of Ages to form a Divine Staff. Replace the Warlock Staff with the Divine Staff. It will destroy the lizard mage. Then use the Divine Staff to kill Talimar by clicking on him a lot. After he’s dead, you’re rescued by the dragon and brought back to town, where you are hailed as a hero.
Ending C
Replace the Warlock Staff with the Staff of Ages. It will destroy the lizard mage, but Talimar will use the Staff of Ages to kill you and bring darkness to the world forever.
Ending D
Before you enter the final battle, return to the Curio Shop in town and get the Skull Censer. Return to Castle Shadowgate.
Where you would have gotten the Sun Stone, you’ll find the Moon Stone instead.
When you get to the Mirror Room — the room where you would use the Gold Ring to go to the final battle — you will see the image of the royal sorcerer Lakmir. Cast EDUC SPIRITUS to bring him into the world, then kill him with the Scythe. His soul will be absorbed by the Censer, leaving you with Lakmir’s soul confined within a Soul Prison. Combine that with the Moon Stone to form a Void Conduit.
At the final battle, take the Warlock Staff and combine it with the Void Conduit to form a Void Staff. Put that back in the hole. It will emit rays that kill Belezsarr. You’ll black out for a moment, but when awareness returns, you will be holding the Void Staff and need to click on Talimar a lot. Once he is dead, you will walk slowly back to town and back to your home, spreading ennui and death as you go.
It’s tough to tell which of C or D is worse. At least in D, the bad guy is dead (along with all the good guys), while in C he lives. Anyway.
First video below is of the A, B and C endings. Second video is Ending D.
I… just killed the Imp. I feel terrible. He stole my stuff, but… man…
Well, let that sadness grow within you to encompass the whole world…
The guy just wanted a cookie and to get rid of his ghost. That’s damn relatable.
You’d think the ghost would be satisfied if you just give her the imp. But noooooo she wants it all.
