Beyond Shadowgate, the NES-inspired point and click adventure game from the developers of the original Shadowgate, dropped a new patch last week that fixes a couple bugs, a couple exploits, and adds a new… secret menu? Here’s that part of the patch notes:
Secret Special Settings Menu
Added a secret menu with a couple of features for players who are doing multiple playthroughs.
Unlocking the Special Menu
You must have completed the game once (any ending) to unlock the Special Menu. You’ll have to be patient on the Main Menu while keeping an eye out for an old friend. Click on them to unlock the Special Menu!
Hold To Skip Text
Turning this function on will allow you to hold down the button (Mouse Left or ‘A’ on an Xbox Controller) to progress through text pages and dismiss them. This is intended to alleviate the hundreds and hundreds of frantic clicks needed to get through the game.
In-Game Timer
Turning this setting on will show an in-game timer at the bottom of the screen. It will show you exactly when the in-game timer is ticking.
These settings have been added to a special menu that requires completing the game because they do alter things away from the intended experience.
After unlocking the Special Menu, you can catch a glimpse of an old pal if you stick around.
