I Know What I Did Last Weekend

I thought it might be fun to just summarize last weekend’s gaming. I do a few things, but not one of them deserves its own blog post.

First, I worked on my new short story a bit. It’s based on the strange events surrounding the Apollo 15 mission. I can’t say more without spoilers, but I think it will be fun.

Guild Wars 2

Finished Janthir Wilds chapter 9 and am onto chapter 10. We did Spode’s chapter 13 fight first. Calrain was looking for help for a fight from chapter 7, but he had to go AFK so I went and soloed the chapter 9 fight, which was me fighting Decimus and Greer for a long, long time until they retreated and I was warned by a new titan whose name I can’t remember to back off, which I did. (Uln? Ura? Something like that). Since we’ve been doing Spode’s fights, I know where this all leads. Papa Bear finally learned the truth about his clan’s “healer” but agrees to take it up once the titan threat is passed. Baby Bear is now a blooded warrior, but Papa Bear still plans to be a helicopter parent about it. I have the feeling that Walking Slowly or whatever her name is, is going to be the new Mama Bear once all is said and done.

Malifaux

The banner picture up top is of my new “December” keyword crew, mostly put together. I have some minions left to put together, then to prime and paint it. Next Saturday we’re having a mini-tournament somewhere, and I’d like to try it out. I don’t know if we’re going up Tuesday. At the end of the month is the CaptainCon gaming convention in Rhode Island. Kasul is going to be doing a team Malifaux tournament. He’s studying for it with videos and podcasts because the rules are a little extra and neither of us has done anything like that. I’ll be doing a beginner’s tournament while there, and, I hope, a couple other gaming things while Kasul is competing.

I bought him a chess timer for Christmas so that he could practice with it. Normal Malifaux games are long. Team tournament games are on a timer. You move quickly or run out of time.

Palworld

On my first level 60 oil rig run, I got a blueprint for a purple Plasma Cannon. It took a long time to harvest and produce all the mats for it, but I finally got everything together and set my Anubis crew to making it. Even then, I had to help with the finishing touches. Zenni and I flew off to Feywild, looking for trouble. We one-shotted a couple bosses, but had a lot less fun in the Blastogis tower. I was hoping to take down the boss quickly — I’d only made 75 rounds for the plasma cannon — and it took most of them to win the fight.

With the plasma cannon, the final tower in both normal and hard modes, and the Xenolord raid on farm status, I am more or less done with Palworld for now. I might run the new oil rig a few more times to see if I can find a better armor blueprint.

Fantasian Neo Dimension

Finally started this game. It’s been sitting on my desk for awhile. I’m not too far into it, but I’m loving it so far. It’s like if FFVII and FFVII had a baby. It’s more FFVII. I’m there for it. More later.

StarVaders

A really fun cross between Slay the Spire and Space Invaders. You build a deck to ward off enemy invaders, after which is a boss fight. It is really quite a lot like Slay the Spire, tbh. Deck building is fun! More on this later, as well.

Baldur’s Gate 3

Kasul is finally playing BG3. I can’t help kibbitzing a little bit, which probably annoys him. However, when he got to the end of the Gauntlet of Shar, he did something surprising: he let Shadowheart become a Dark Justiciar. This sets Shadowheart on a dark path; she can still redeem herself in Act III. I’d never done this, though I intended to do it on an evil playthrough.

He doesn’t know the facts about Isabella, Ketheric Thorne and the Nightsong, but things quickly went south in the overworld. I thought he would restore from save, but it looks like he’s going to play it through. It’ll be interesting to see where this goes.

No board games this weekend due to illness in my daughter’s family. We’ll see if we play tonight; if we do, it will be more Bardwood Grove.
