This is going to be a fairly short piece, because I’ve played Valheim a lot; I’m not really sure how much I can really say about it that I have not said before.
The other reason is that my gaming for the next few months is more or less scheduled. I’m playing EverQuest Legends now, and I doubt I will quit before Kunark comes out and we defeat Veeshan’s Peak a few times.
I think the new Guild Wars 2 content drops today; this will be the last story chunk until Guild Wars 3 comes out. It sets up the time travel nonsense we’ve been working toward the past year.
Enshrouded 1.0 comes out in, I think, October, and Team Spode has committed to playing that, though I wonder if Lord Spode his own royal self will play, as he’s not a fan of survival crafters.
Anyway, for Valheim, I was kinda hoping that the server (which I am not running) would have some of those quality of life options that Wilhelm was talking about — no build costs for recipes you knew and could construct with the hammer and no crafting bench; greater experience; more damage — the kind of thing that could quickly bring me to the Mistlands, where I always lose interest, and maybe all the way through to the new content.
But there’s just more resources and the ability to carry metal through portals. That definitely makes things easier, but easy enough?
Also, I cheated — a little bit. I took my new character to our own Team Spode world that I have running and picked up some leather, leather scraps and bone chips to get over that initial hump where you need to kill deer and boar but don’t really have the tools for it. So, now I have the leather, scraps and bone chips to be able to get past the naked, punching trees stage.
The second thing is all the achievements. The first one I looked for is to build a house — so I did. Four walls, roofs, fire, chimney, fire, workbench, bed. Achievement didn’t fire.
So will have to work on that. But I don’t really feel like going through all the grind again for the nth time. I was hoping for a quick trip.

It’s a busy time for these games. This one, and as you say Enshrouded hits 1.0, Runescape: Dragonwilds just hit 1.0, and the big Dune:Awakening update (and console launch) is this month as well.
Trees and rocks everywhere are quivering in fear!
I can’t see a tree in real life without giving it a good smack, just in case.
I am feeling like a bit of Valheim tourism myself. My post today was also about Valheim.
I don’t feel the need to walk uphill, both ways, in the snow for everything this time. The resource management and acquisition is a necessary gate for some things, but we’ve done it as a group through the plains at least four times now, so I am fine taking it easy and just enjoying the neat aspects of the game. It still feels fresh when you start on a new world with a new character.
(But I might go grab some supplies from one of our old worlds, now that you’ve mentioned that… and change the building materials thing for the hammer.)
I’m playing with other folks who are super gatherers and hunters and stuff, so probably I won’t have to do the dull stuff if I don’t want to… might make it easier.
